Values That Impact Lives

Listening House Core values

You see them here in the pages of our website — our core values: respect, hospitality, inclusion, community, and compassion. They’re values we do our best to live by every day — because every day we see the difference they make in people’s lives.

Read Molly’s recent article on homelessness impacting loneliness, and keep in mind how each of these core values plays a part in easing the isolation and loneliness that our guests often face.

Creating a space where our guests can relax, enjoy a meal, and get a helping hand from a smiling face works to create a sense of inclusion and community — and can help ease the feeling of being alone and uncared about.

We’re occasionally reminded how these values became part of our DNA. Recently we were saddened by the passing of Rosemarie Reger-Rumsey, who was Listening House’s executive director for almost 20 years. Tributes for Rosemarie poured in from all over St. Paul — from friends and associates, but also from city leaders; people who knew how much she meant to the community. But perhaps the quote that summed Rosemarie up best came from her daughter Emily, who simply explained “Hospitality was her gift.”

Respect. Hospitality. Inclusion. Community. Compassion. With your help, we hope to carry on these core values and continue to provide support to our unsheltered guests.
